Overview
Satpara Lake is one of the most important and beautiful natural lakes in Gilgit-Baltistan, located just 8 km south of Skardu city at an altitude of 2,636 metres. The lake stretches for about 3 km and is fed by the Satpara stream draining from higher glaciated peaks. Its deep blue-green waters are a critical source of drinking water for Skardu and also power a hydroelectric dam that supplies the region with electricity.
Half-Day from Skardu
Drive from Skardu city (20 min). Walk along the lake shore and take a rowboat or motorboat ride. Visit the Satpara Dam viewpoint. Walk to the ancient Satpara Buddha Rock carvings (10 min from shore). Sunset photography from the eastern bank. Return to Skardu.
