Takht-i-Bahi ('Throne of the Water Spring') is Pakistan's most spectacular and remarkably preserved Buddhist monastic complex, perched dramatically 152 meters atop a rocky ridge in Mardan. Founded in the 1st century CE during the Kushan Empire, this UNESCO World Heritage Site features stupa courtyards, monastic cells, meditation vaults, and assembly halls that survived centuries intact.

Meet in Islamabad and drive north across the Kabul River to Mardan. Check-in and introductory briefing on Gandharan Buddhist archaeology.
Morning trek up to Takht-i-Bahi monastic ruins. Detailed exploration of the stupa court, monastic cloisters, and meditation vaults. Afternoon visit to the ancient city mounds of Sahr-i-Bahlol.
Drive to Peshawar to visit the Peshawar Museum, home to the Buddha's life story told in schist carvings and the Kanishka casket relic. Evening return to Islamabad.
