Nanga Parbat, the ninth-highest mountain globally, stands in Pakistan’s Great Himalayan range. It boasts three eye-catching faces: Raikot East, Diamer West, and the awe-inspiring Rupal South face, known for its colossal vertical rise of 4,572 meters from its base camp. The Shina name for Nanga Parbat, “Diamir,” reflects its ancient significance as the “King of the Mountains,” linked to the Sanskrit term “Devameru.”
Trekking around Nanga Parbat offers adventure enthusiasts several options. The Tarashing Rupal trek is a beautiful moderate trek starting with a drive from Chilas to Astore, leading through picturesque locales like Herlingkoffer base camp, Shaigiri, Latoba, and Mazeno base camp. Another option is the challenging Around Nanga Parbat Trek, crossing three high passes, including the technical Mazeno La.
Nanga Parbat’s colossal faces, rich history, and trekking opportunities make it a remarkable destination.
